If a death occurs in the presence of doctors, for example in a hospital, you only need to call the funeral director. They will take care of everything else.

  • Is it possible to bury an urn in one's own garden?

In Germany, burial in a cemetery is mandatory. This is regulated by the burial laws of the individual federal states. The purpose of this law is to protect the dignity of the deceased and respect their peace. Only in Bremen is it possible, under certain conditions, to bury the ashes of the deceased on private property.

  • I would like a cremation. Then I don't need a coffin, right?

In Germany, there is a legal requirement for burials in a coffin, meaning that every person must be buried in one, even in the case of cremation. The coffin burns along with the human remains, forming the ashes that are placed in an urn.

Bible book Ecclesiastes

Chapter 3 Verses 19,20

“…for as happens to humans, so happens to animals: both meet the same end. As one dies, so dies the other, and they all share the same spirit. Humans are therefore not superior to animals, for everything is meaningless. All go to the same place.”

They all come from the dust and to the dust they all return.
